China’s Ministry of Science and Technology is set to launch its national blockchain technology research hub in Beijing.
The new research hub will focus on blockchain, regarding fundamental theory, hardware, and software, to develop related vital technologies and industrial applications. It will also focus on the issues related to the national economy and personal livelihood and making blockchain an essential foundation for China’s new digital infrastructure.
The new center will collaborate with domestic universities in China, research institutes, and businesses. The research hub will be led by the Microchip Research Institute, which is an edge computing research institute in Beijing.
Two years ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned that blockchain would play an essential role in the next technological innovation and industrial transformation round. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) stated that China will explore using blockchain broadly across various technologies by 2030.
The MIIT official also declared last year that China has the most blockchain patent applications in the world.
