The Odisha police will create an artificial intelligence (AI)-based search engine to assist the investigating officers in quickly obtaining information on crimes, criminals, and their tactics in order to leverage advanced data analytics in investigating crime.
The AI-based search engine can give police quick access to information on subjects like the total number of robberies reported along a specific stretch of highway, whether a suspect or accused has ever been detained in connection with other crimes or has previously engaged in similar behavior, the locations where ATM theft, snatching, and harassment incidents peaked during the holiday season, and more.

By matching the words entered into the AI search engine, the technology can immediately provide numerous potential names of the accused or suspects based on phonetics. “For instance, if an accused person’s name appears in the FIR as Akhaya Das, the search engine will show both that name and those spelled differently, such as Akshaya Dash and Akhay Das, if entered differently,” the police officer continued.
In Odisha, more than 600 police stations have been connected to the CCTNS database. The database makes it easier for police facilities across the nation to communicate and share information, automate and digitize FIRs, improve law and order and traffic management, and follow the status of investigations and legal proceedings.
